A Build A Brad tutorial
By Yvonne | April 13, 2009
When I pulled my Build-a-brad pack (or BAB as I like to call it!) out I wasn’t sure what to think of it, but then I had a bit of play with it and I have to say, I can really see it’s potential to add that extra something to your creation! The BAB doesn’t come with instructions as such, not that you really need it, but I know that there are some visual people out there who would probably like a quick tutorial! The pack comes like this:
It contains 24 brad pieces and adhesive acrylic baubles. You will need a 1/2″ circle punch to get a really clean finish. Use an image that will fit inside the 1/2″circle punch as I have done here
(this heart is from the Cheep Talk)
Use your /2″circle punch over the image. Place a little snail on the back of the image and adhere it to the brad.
The acrylic dots are held inbetween 2 sheets of plastic. Peel off one side, and you will see that one side of the dot is sticky, place the sticky side down on the image.
And now you are ready to use anywhere!
I embossed the tree with white EP and used my brayer to create the background with a variety of inks from the Earth Elements family. The edge was made with the curly label punch, an idea I first saw here .
Hmm, not sure if you can see the embossing or the shine of the BAB!
Stamps: Thoughts and Prayers, Short and sweet,
Inks: versamark, ruby red, pumkpin pie, really rust, summer sun, chocolate chip, close to cocoa.
Card: whisper white, chocolate chip, pumpkin pie.
Accessories: white embossing powder, build a brad, pumpkin pie grosgrain ribbon, curly label punch, 1/2″circle punch.
You can also create lovely BAB’s using your DSP as I have done here.
How yummo is this paper!?! (this is the Rasberry Tart DSP) This is the BAB that I made with it.
I popped it on a Flower Fusion flower to finish it off. Like the bag? It is actually the little bag on page 65 of the Stampin Up Catalogue. Here is a full photo of the bag.
As you can imagine, Little Miss thought it was ’so cute!’ and has already taken off with it lol! I used a little velcro dot to hold the top of the bag down.
The Build a Brad comes in either Pewter or Antique Brass and is $18.95 plus postage. Off to create some more now that it is nice and quiet in the house!

Wow Yvonne, that tree card is stunning…love the colours you’ve used and that fancy edge is fabulous (just went and checked out the tutorial for it). Now I might just need that punch now! LOL And your little handbag is cute too. Love those BAB’s – such a fantastic idea to personalise our brads.
