Darth Vader paper piecing tutorial for you star wars fans!
By Yvonne | November 10, 2008
Ok, so I think there may be ‘just a couple’ Star Wars fans out there based on what is in my inbox this morning lol!! I knew I wanted to piece Darth Vader’s mask so I printed off a picture from the web and using baking paper, I traced over the picture, creating shapes that I could cut out. I then trasfered them onto the stampin up basic black cardstock. This is what I came up with
. You should be able to print this directly off, but you may need to enlarge it so it fits on an A4 sheet. If you have trouble, email me and I will send you my scanned copy.
Some of the lines could be straighter, so use your initiative to tweak the lines, I tend to do things a little haphazardly!
Once I cut out all the pieces I layed them out in the position they will go. As you can see, they are numbered so use that as a guide. What that means is when you go to stick a piece down, you will put adhesive on the numbered side, and the picture will be in reverse. So piece number 7 (the right eye) will be stuck down on the opposite side and form the left eye. What I did was flip them over in the right spot, making sure I was happy with the placement before sticking htem down. Once happy, stick them down in the following order 5, 11, 13, 14, 8, 9, 2, 10, 6, 7, 3, 4, 15, 12, 1.
Once it was stuck down on white cardstock, I used a silver gel pen to run around the edges of each pieced shape to give it definition. You could use a white gel pen (I couldn’t find mine lol) I then cut around Darth.
Cover Darth in versamark, making sure the whole shape is covered in the ink.
Cover Darth is CLEAR embossing powder.
Heat emboss until the powder turns clear and glossy.
And there you have ol Darth Vader, but he is missing something here…
Bling!!! Yes Carol, even Darth needs bling lol!! I was going to use brads for the 2 screws on his lower jaw, but they were too small, so out came the styled hodgepodge! I matted him on white cardstock, then on black and then on a sheet of basic gray cardstock folded in half – it is a big card!!
Hope this is clear, if you have any trouble, just let me know!!

Oh that is the best older boys card I’ve seen.
I’ll have to get Kristy to show me how to do this heat embossing stuff. Hmm Kristy, have you made it yet, only 12 days to go. : )
