water coloured roses
By Yvonne | June 17, 2009
I was thinking of what to share with you today and then I remembered that I had not yet shown you my watercoloured roses! I know this technique has been all over the internet over the past few weeks and it seriously is the simplest watercolouring you will ever do! I actually ran a class on it a couple of weeks ago and the card below is what we made, it was a definite hit!
To see a step by step tutorial on this watercolouring technique, see HERE. This technique started in the US but using shimmer paper which we don’t have here in Australia, so I have been using our Stampin’ Up watercolouring paper which looks fantastic.’The tutorial for the side step card can be found HERE The card size however is a bit too big for our envelopes so all I did was cut the size of the card down a little and keep the other measurements the same. I cut the card to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/4″
My card was inspired by one made by another Australian Demonstrator, Andrea . The set used is the gorgeous Fifth Avenue set, embossed with white embossing powder, then watercoloured with reinkers and lots of water. Here is a close up of the roses:

And then I used the flower in this set and watercoloured them to create this card:
Hmm, I thought I took this photo a bit closer so sorry it is so small, not sure what happened! I ran the vanilla card through the cuttlebug with the leaf folder (not sure of its real name) I then sponged some of the pumpkin pie ink over it. I stamped the grass image from the Inspired by Nature stamp set on the background of the card as well.
I have heaps of the roses just lying about waiting for me to be inspired and create something around them, they are just so fun to make! If you have not tried watercolouring paper, you have to give it a go, but please make sure it is of good quality, I have tried all sorts, brands and thickness and have to say the Stampin up one wins hands down!’

They look amazing. Have seen this technique mentioned, first time I’ve been tempted to try it. The lilies look beautiful.

These are beautiful cards, Yvonne, and like you, I love the water colouring technique, and also have a dozen or so flowers waiting for inspiration – I did make a large (A4 folded) card with almost a dozen flowers set in a ‘vase’ for a 90th. birthday card, that used a few in one go! Once again, gorgeous cards, cheers, Jo

I really love the last card Yvonne. Looks great with the embossing (leaf) – I have that folder – would love to case your card and try the colouring with the same flower. Just beautiful
